The construction boom being witnessed in our country in recent years has resulted in a manifold increase in the quantum of plumbing works to be handled. To cope with this additional work load, several new individuals and companies are constantly joining the trade. This article is an attempt to share our practical experiences primarily with the new entrants to the trade and countless end users.

The task of achieving a trouble-free plumbing installation would involve three major components, namely:

• A technically correct, simple and user-friendly design based on modern codes and standards.


• Selection of the right, technically sound materials.


• Adopting correct installation methods employing skilled workmen and supervisory staff.

Experience has proven that rectification of a bad installation would normally culminate in trial and error methods consuming time, efforts and money in addition to inconveniences. Needless to stress, a marginal additional cost involved in selection of superior materials would prove to be beneficial in the long run.

Considering the factors mentioned above, this essay will try to concentrate more on "Prevention" than "Cure". Since, the selection of high quality materials alone will not result in a good plumbing installation, correct installation methods have also been briefly dealt with sanitary.
